Party Planning 101 – Decorate your Home in Style and on Budget!

When it comes to birthdays, you don’t always want to spend an arm and a leg on decorations. And other times you want something more personalized and unique to celebrate a loved one. Whatever the case may be when you’re planning a birthday party, we recommend a bit of DIY work to get the festivities started off on the right foot.

If you love to entertain, but also love to save money, we have made a simplified party planning process for you. We have developed the following DIY list that you can use as a reference when selecting your party design and decorations.

The best way to make any party more extravagant and festive is balloons. But, don’t just scatter them around. Use them with different stylings. Balloons are a great traditional decorative accessory and by making them more attractive and pleasing to the eye can only make your party more rocking. You can use them with glitter, tissue paper stylings, as a backdrop or scatter them around in different parts of the space.

You’re never too old to revel in the magic of falling confetti. Here’s a way to get the look for your next party without the mess. Cover a wall with your choice of wrapping paper (something shiny adds a bit of glam). Use a circle punch to cut out your confetti, apply spray glue on the wrapping paper, and pat the confetti on to stick. Pair the confetti wall with fringe garland or balloons for an added touch of drama.

Another great decor idea to consider is these floating cones. They are a sweet way to decorate for an ice cream social, kid’s birthday party or wedding or baby shower. Who doesn’t love ice cream? And who wouldn’t love this sweet addition to the party? Made with party lanterns and manila folders, you’d be surprised how easy this is!

When hosting a small party, serving individual portions of food adds an intimate feel to the table. And because cupcakes are always a hit, why not give them the pedestal treatment they deserve? All you need for these mini cupcake stands are candlesticks, wooden circles, wood glue and spray paint. The project might be easy, but the final look is deliciously elegant.

They are also budget-friendly and do not require a lot of hard work. Plus, they are all-time favorites among kids and as well as adults. So, you can never go wrong with cupcakes.

Jazz up every hat at the party with fun embellishments and creative spirits. Every guest should have one and add to the eclectic mix!

Skip the store-bought version and try your hand at these easy party hats made from construction paper and duct tape. Or better yet, let the kids decorate their own colorful party hats as an easy party activity. Cut a large sheet of construction paper into a big circle. Cut a slit into the center and fold into the shape of a party hat. Then simply add a few pops of color with duct tape.

Accent the table with succulents for a simply modern centerpiece that wows and lasts long after the party ends. An eclectic mix of containers works best to display the succulents — think thrift store jars, vases, glasses, and even old tin cans.

You can also create a beautiful scene on the tables with a bit of water, food coloring, and fresh florals. This adds an easy pop to an unsuspecting spot and the guests will adore it!

With a little ingenuity, it is entirely possible to throw a party without spending a lot of money. Just get creative and combine your favorite menu items with the other tips I’ve mentioned here.

The more you practice at throwing a great party with cheap commodities and DIYs, the better you’ll get at it. You’ll eventually be able to rattle inexpensive ideas off the top of your head for foods that don’t feel or taste cheap.
